Sweetest
Day
What is Sweetest Day?
Sweetest Day is not a romantic holiday like
Valentine's Day.
It had it's origins in the 1920's when a Cleveland man thought of the city's
orphans and shut-ins, who were too-often forgotten and neglected.
With the help of friends and neighbors, he
distributed small gifts to "forgotten" children and elderly on a Saturday in
October. The idea caught on and spread from Cleveland to other cities.
This time of remembrance began to be known as Sweetest Day.
Today, in many parts of the country Sweetest
Day is an occasion to remember a special someone with a small act of
kindness, a kind note, a thank-you or a small gift. It is a day to
remember anyone who has been especially nice or thoughtful: a special friend
or neighbor, someone who cares for your children, a shut-in or even a spouse
or family member.
Why not spread some Sweetest Day cheer this
year? |
